Morris Guitars Serial Number

The Morris Guitars company has been building quality handcrafted instruments in Nagano, Japan for a long time. Toshio Moridaira, the founder, was the first distributor in Japan to carry both Fender and Gibson lines. All I could find was that Morris guitars are very highly rated with acoustic guitar players all over the world and they were selling them. Its Serial Number is 852554.

Owner Marvin Povernik scoured flea markets and thrift shops to find his stock and it was impressive. I’d walk in and say, “Marvin, I need a Kustom amp,” and he’d reply “Pull those out under there, I think there’s one in back.” There was. 1975 Morris Custom Electric Guitar (Copy Era) Alas, like so many things, Torresdale music is no more. Marvin had diabetes, but refused to give up a steady diet of cheesesteak sandwiches from Chink’s up the street.

I recently purchased, second hand, the above model guitar and would like to know its year of manufacture, an approximate value, all it’s technical information (what it is made of etc). The number on the back of the neck at the top is 270085. The number on the front of the neck near the sound hole is 81108 Hoping you can help me. Many thanks Simon Smith •.

The edge of the back side was bruised, and it seems that on about a six inches long part the back plate was parted from the side. I see another hairline cleft on the middle of the edge. I would like to know, that whether this effects the sound of the guitar? If yes, can the guitar be repared? The sound of the guitar will be the same as originaly?

The local music shop purchased two guitars for evaluation. I bought the first and a friend of mine bought the second one.

They sound pretty close to the way Taylors sound, for less money. Morris is starting to pick up more dealers in the U.S. Shoot me an email if you have other questions and I'll try to help. Hi, dear All! I have an acoustic Morris guitar (model W604M) with bronze strings, made in Japan in 1977. I own it for 18 years, I very like the sound of it and I cared it very much. But unfortunately it slipped out from the shoulder-strap and fell down.

Sadly i didnt get to play his other guitars before he sold it. At that time i was not that interested into acoustics so i cant compare.

Toshio Moridaira, the founder, was the first distributor in Japan to carry both Fender and Gibson lines. In 1964, due to his working relationship with Gibson, Mr. Moridaira was able to visit the Gibson factory in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Chink’s – periodically the object of controversy because of its politically incorrect name – is a little malted milk parlor whose booths make you feel like you just stepped back into 1940 and that serves up renowned steaks. Bruce Willis always orders them when he’s shooting a movie in town.

Morris Md 500

In one of the shopping streets I found a music store full of Morris guitars. Unfortunately I was short of money, otherwise I would have bought a 12-string. Right now I'm looking for a new guitar. It's more or less impossible to find a Morris in Sweden, so I guess I'll have to buy another brand. Hi Lars, I have just privately purchased a Morris W621S Acoustic owned by a session musician who worked with Roxette and many other big names. It is one of the richest sounds I've heard from an acoustic. Ian J채rf채lla Sweden: I bought my Morris six-string in Sweden in 1971.

Some guy in Calgary tried to sell me a blue one about 12 years ago for $500.00 but it was rough. At that time I thought I would like to have one in each color. Did not buy it. Hope your readers found this to be interesting.

Today, Morris Guitars are played by some of the world’s finest fingerstyle guitarists. Our products are available through a small number of dealers here in the U.S.

Here, morris is pretty much known that's the old morris acoustics where they used to copy martins. My mentor has a 70's morris and he also owned a couple of yamaha's, asami and some other old japanese acoustics and he prefers the morris more.

On request, some pics of my small collection of Morris Guitars. Starting with a 'before' picture of the very first I ever got: my good old Morris ES-175D. I got this one when I was very young and ignorant around 1977/1978 (second hand!). It was in a bad shape: broken nut, no pickguard, lousy components. One of the first things I had to do was to replace the jack. While doing that I lost the little jackplate which I remember had a serial number stamped into it. It's been almost fully restored now, but unfortunately, I'm missing the trussrod cover Marc Last edited by MacMorris; at 06:28 PM.

I have no problem with my Everly Bros guitar. Remember all acoustic guitars will need proper care re moisture in order to remain playable. Actually playing them will help them remain in proper adjustment.

Not sure why but i keep this one in my bedroom. These two guitars were made in the mid 70`s. The inside sticker shown is for a model 20 that i also have.

It sat up in the most wonderful guitar shop ever called Torresdale Music, a tiny corner storefront in the working-class Philly neighborhood that shared the name. Torresdale was like something out of Dickens, with amps crammed around the perimeter and high in the center and guitars hanging or stacked everywhere else.

This first model is one of my faves that i own. The japanese morris guitar company was known for their “lawsuit” martin copies, like this one. They were very well made and sound great! I put a mic pickup on mine for live performances. The second shown is a rare everly brothers model. Not sure why but i keep this one in my bedroom.

In 2001 we took on a new challenge and introduced the S Series- “The Ideal Guitar for Fingerstyle Players”. At that time, we had been conducting extensive market research in the US by attending guitar contests and meeting with some of the top luthiers. We came to the conclusion that we needed to develop a guitar for fingerstyle players.

Maybe morris is not that much known there in the states? Im in asia btw.

Then on the front of the headstock there is a mother of pearl inlay of a butterfly. Can anyone tell me where or who this guitar came from or what company might have? This guitar has four knobs on it for volume and tone as well as two slide switches.

However, I have a Lotus on my 1980’s page that is fantastic! Next to that is an Inter-Mark frmo Japan. Well built guitar, MUCH better than most semi-hollows from this era. You can’t tell from the picture but this thing is HUGE! 18″ across the body where an LP is about 12″. Next to that is an old Lyle SG.

So now I know Moridaira was the source - I just need to find out if they built in-house, and if not, who they outsourced to.

Therefore, it is important to have wide enough string spacing to avoid an accidental muting of the adjoining strings. Today’s fingerstyle players are influenced by many different styles of music such as Classic, Flamenco, Bossa Nova, Jazz and Rock, and are incorporating various techniques such as bending, vibrato, tapping and harmonics to enhance their playing. Ideal Guitar for fingerstyle playing When the strings are tuned down, the string tension becomes lower, which often causes problems such as string buzz and dead spots. It is necessary to have a strong and straight neck in order to adjust to the changing string tension when the guitar is tuned down. In order to express the subtle difference of the delicate fingerpicking sound, the body must have good response.

Actually playing them will help them remain in proper adjustment. Yours may not be fixable anymore Perhaps pro can help you out with the guitar but a collector will not be too enthused with it as it is. Shaving the saddle was kinda drastic, then again that`s what we do sometimes so your call.

This allowed some elbowroom for Gibson and Fender to rethink and retool their operations to fortify their position in the market. To avoid the same problem happening again, Gibson bought Epiphone and started building some very nice Imported Copy Guitars! Fender opened facilities outside North America under different brand names like Squier. GIBSON LES PAUL COPIES Here is a typical selection of 1970’s Fender and Gibson copies. These were all imported from Japan under different brand names. Also a sweet ’74 Gibson Les Paul 55. The Morris models you listed are not current production models. I have owned a Morris S-107 for seven years. It lists for $3400 (or there about) but no one pays that much. Morris made very so-so low end instruments for many years and then they kicked into high gear around 10 years ago and started making 'hand made' (you decide what that means) high end guitars. These hand made models are all solid woods and are impeccably crafted in Japan.

Did have a 1975 all laminated Morris for a short time but got rid of it.the two I own now are keepers, the M-2000 is one remarkable guitar.

The store is now a hairdresser. But at least I have the memories, and the Morris Custom now calls to me from the back of my rack!

(Note the connection with ABC MUSIC) They were available in three starburst colors. Red, Blue and Green. His students were the first to buy these guitars complete with Amp for $250.00. I have the green version. Hohn would teach the standard cords, scales and ‘HOT CROSS BUNS’. The last five minutes of class were the best.

It is necessary to have a strong and straight neck in order to adjust to the changing string tension when the guitar is tuned down. In order to express the subtle difference of the delicate fingerpicking sound, the body must have good response. This enables the player to transfer all the vibration of the strings, have a balanced sound from the treble to bass, and be able to amplify the sound. The neck angle has to be set perfectly in order to maintain a nice low action from low to high positions. The body and neck should also be joined tightly and securely, to transmit the sound most effectively.

The Local Rock Inn has a Morris reissue of one of those old high end models from decades ago, they were certainly on par with Yamaha in their day and the newer high end stuff is outstanding and by the way, they still make low ends too just not in Japan anymore. That Rock Inn model was ordered by the chain and sold exclusively by them and costs as much as a Martin or Gibson in the shop so yeah, Morris is capable of building extremely high end guitars and have been for decades.just that most of the old stuff seen, and that applies to Japan too, is low end older models, possibly because owners of the good ones aren`t selling and the low ends are not rare here. Did have a 1975 all laminated Morris for a short time but got rid of it.the two I own now are keepers, the M-2000 is one remarkable guitar.

Marvin’s health deteriorated and the shop was sold, its many wonders dispersed into suburban music stores. The store is now a hairdresser. But at least I have the memories, and the Morris Custom now calls to me from the back of my rack!

Next to that is an old Lyle SG. Hi, I am hoping you can help me with some information on the Morris Tornado xx80 acoustic round back guitar, or put me in touch with someone who can help.

The fingerboard should have a wide enough string spacing for easy fingering: the 6th string should be easy to fret by the thumb and also the 1st string should not fall off from the fingerboard when you apply strong vibrato on the string. The saddle must have an octave pitch adjustment, so the guitar maintains perfect intonation anywhere on the fingerboard.
